Sports

Sports at New Plymouth Girls’ High is about providing every student with the opportunity to be physically active, be it social or high performance. Sport will allow students to understand commitment and teamwork while learning important life skills such as perseverance, resilience and positive sportsmanship.

TSSSA SPORTS

TSSSA actively promote sporting opportunities for Taranaki secondary school students. TSSSA are passionate about youth being engaged in sport for life and believe that quality school sport experiences are vital to the development of our young people.  The TSSSA Program aims to encourage participation and offer barrier free sporting opportunities that are both relevant and reflective of student voice.

Facilities

At New Plymouth Girls’ High School, we have a range of facilities that students use for sport and these facilities can also be hired out to the community.

We have two Gymnasiums that are used for a variety of sporting codes. The main Gym offers changing and showering facilities, with carparking.

Across the road from the school is the Mangorei Field. This is used for Cricket and Football competitions and sports trainings.

We have two artificial surfaces that are used for Tennis, Netball, Futsal, Cricket and several other codes.

Across from the main Gym is a sand based Volleyball court.

Our School Swimming Pool is a six-lane 25m pool and is used for a variety of sporting codes including Physical Education classes.

Attached to our Old Gym is a small but well-resourced Fitness Centre available for sports training use.

Any enquiries about our sporting facilities at New Plymouth Girls’ High School, please contact the Director of Sport, Mrs Josie Cleaver at [email protected]

Volunteer Roles

The support of people in the local community to coach and/or manage our large number of sporting codes is always welcomed as we rely heavily on this support to ensure we can offer every sporting opportunity.
