Athletics
In Term 1, NPGHS hosts the school’s athletics day at the TET Stadium. This is a whole school event that caters to all students, whether they want to compete and aim to break school records or they just want to give athletics a go and gain some waka points. Students that do well at this event are then invited to attend the TSSSA Athletics meeting and NZ Secondary Schools Track and Field event.

Cross Country
Cross Country is a winter sport which all students can participate in. The school cross country event is held Term 1 and the Taranaki Championships follows this. Additional cross-country events are organised locally by New Plymouth Harriers.

Training: NPGHS have a running squad that meets every Monday lunch, Tuesday morning and Thursday lunch. For more specific athletics track and field training it is recommended that students join up with a club. For more information, please contact Athletics Taranaki.

Venue: TET Stadium, Inglewood for Track & Field.  Various locations for Cross-country and Road races.

Uniform and equipment: Top supplied by the school.

• NZSS Cross Country varies depending on event location - approximately $350.
