Subject Selection


Here is everything you need to know about the  Subject Selection process                 


Term 2 

The Curriculum Booklet updates for the following year will be made online for students to read and a communication sent home to whānau explaining the Subject Selection process. Students and whānau can discuss subject options and research tertiary entry requirements during the school holidays.

Term 3   Week 1

  • Monday - KAMAR Subject Selection – student portal opens for entering subjects.
  • Monday - Subject selection assembly for all Year 9 students.
  • Thursday - Subject selection assembly for all Year 10 to Year 12 students.
  • Subject teachers will explain next year’s courses during class time.
  • Students spend Kāwai Huia times planning their Subject selection for the following year and beyond.

Term 3   Week 2 & 3

  • Discussions with Kāwai Huia teacher/subject teacher/careers department about options for the following year and possible pathways.
  • Monday and Thursday (Week 2) and Monday (Week 3) - HODs and Careers staff will be available in the Library during Kāwai Huia times. Students with questions are encouraged to attend.
  • Tuesday (Week 2) - NPGHS Open Evening.
  • Students enter their Subject selections for the following year  in the KAMAR student portal. 
  • Friday (Week 3) - Subject selection deadline and student portal closure.
  • If choosing timetabled Vocational Courses, students fill in the online Vocational Course planning form.


Term 3   Week 5 & 6

  • Where specific needs arise, some Subject Selection Interviews with experienced staff may be held.

Term 3   Week 8, 9 & 10

  • KAMAR Subject Selection portal reopens for students to make minor changes – especially following Senior School Examination results.
  • Friday (last week of Term 3) - KAMAR Subject Selection portal closes – any changes after this must go through the Deans.

Term 4   Week 1, 2 & 3

  • HODs review student course selection and identify students who have not taken the subject before and those who may require additional support to be successful in specific subjects. Teachers will discuss what this may entail with individual students .

Senior students who have selected a Vocational subject (CAT, CLB, TRA and WPT) must complete this form to provide information about your preferred vocational area.

All students considering studying an  NCEA subject(s) above their age cohort need to indicate this in SchoolBridge and complete this form.
Year 10 students will be interviewed, other year levels will be messaged in Teams.
