Rugby at NPGHS is both a summer  and winter sport. Our 7's team has qualified for the National 7’s Condor’s tournament each year and won the Taranaki Secondary Schools rugby competition in recent years.  

The winter 15 a-side competition starts in Term 2. Training is on Monday after school and games are played on Wednesday afternoon.  

Training for the 7’s competition starts in Term 1 with the local qualifying tournament for Nationals held in March.  Training then resumes in Term 3 to prepare for the National tournament held in Term 4.

Touch rugby is a fast paced, non-contact sport which is becoming more and more popular. Touch rugby is played during Term 4 predominantly and caters to both competitive and social players. There is a city-wide touch competition for our junior students to play in and our senior touch team can compete at the Touch Championships in Term 4.

Venue: Practice is on the school fields. Local games are played at Devon Intermediate/Bell Block.

Uniform: Touch tops are provided by the school, students to provide their own shorts and footwear.

Junior Touch competition $40 p/player.

NZSS approximately $700 p/player.
