The Taranaki event is for one day, and relies heavily on parents for transport to/from the mountain on the day. There is generally only 24 hrs notice of this event being held. There can be a high level of alert for avalanches on Taranaki and these tend to finish in the valley where students have to walk to get to the ski field.

NISS skiing & snowboarding events are for 3 days. Students and staff are expected to be in Ohakune for a meeting on Sunday early evening; this is important for getting tickets, racing bibs and information about the events, including the conduct of various “jobs” on the mountain over the next 3 days.
