David Bevins
Deputy Board Chairperson
Hi! I’m David Bevins and together with my wife, Rosemary, we have two children; our son Rory (19 years) Second Year Law at Otago and our daughter, Gabrielle (17 years) in Year 13 at NPGHS, she is still trying to choose her future career path.
A sound educational foundation, good health and a strong moral compass are the three essentials that I believe we must give to our students. Armed with these fundamentals and given the right opportunities, I believe they can achieve anything their potential allows
My occupation as a Travelling Technical Supervisor for the Ministry for Primary Industries has brought me in touch with a huge array of different people from whom I have always managed to learn and am still learning, new and vital knowledge, skills, different ways of thinking, communicating and working together to get the job done right, in a way that fits each person, employee, employer, company and customer precisely. It has made me open to new ideas, adaptable and flexible in my thinking and developed my ability to empathise, communicate effectively and be open-minded. It has also taught me to be aware of opportunities and resources that may be helpful to tap into for everyone that it is my privilege to serve.
I have previously spent six years on the Board of Trustees of Stratford Primary School including time as the Chairperson.
Currently, I am the Chairman of the Te Wera Outdoor Recreational Trust which was established over thirty years ago in an old forestry camp with its main purpose being to provide an affordable venue for schools to use for Education outside the Classroom.
As I’m writing this NZ is still trying to navigate its way safely out of the long shadow of the Coronavirus pandemic and many of our families have faced dark times and will be facing dark times for some time to come. I believe however that it also throws up some incredible opportunities that our students can all benefit from, if only we are open to the possibilities and if we all work together, in a calm, practical, pragmatic and open-minded way, for the good of our daughters!
