Photos - 2011 Vertical Horizon
On 15th August 2011, a group of 18 students from NPGHS tried to brave the snow and head out to Vertical Horizon. The first attempt failed as SH3 was closed but by lunchtime, the roads were open, the snow was melting and the girls were on their way. Paul Hitchcock and the staff at Vertical Horizon ran a week long camp called “U-Turn” which offered the girls extensive outdoor adventure activities and provided great challenges and learning opportunities. The girls looked at practical life skills, teamwork and personal challenges as well as values and attitudes. The students had a fantastic time and even gave up a day off school (teacher only day) to be there. They loved the mix of discussion sessions, DVD’s and the Outdoor challenges and all came back with many stories to tell. They put on a variety show during the last evening and invited family and special guests.
NPGHS would like to thank the sponsors and people who made this camp such a success. We especially thank the following people for their financial assistance in helping the students attend:
- Four Winds
- Vertical Horizon
- Creekton Trust
- PEI
We hope to run similar camps in future years and are always on the look out for ways in which the community can help these girls make a success of their future.
